The Best Foundation Ever? Clinique beyond perfecting foundation review

Clinique Beyond Perfecting 2 in 1 Foundation

Hey guys,

Todays post is a foundation review… I love doing foundation reviews because I am combination to oily skin and of a deeper complexion so finding foundations that not only suit my skin type but also suit my skin tone is one of the hardest task I face.

A little back story, I have struggled with finding a matte affordable/a.k.a drugstore foundation for years. If you guys follow me on social media, you will know it is one of my biggest gripes. I live in the UK, most drugstores do not carry darker shades of foundation, majority of the time I have to rely on online swatches and even go as far as ordering some from the US website… I know right!!!! AAARGH. I find it quite irritating and disappointing that many brands such as revlon, max factor, Maybelline, Makeup revolution, Sleek (yep they have discontinued their foundation in stores), collection, Loreal (they have recently come out with a campaign of darker shades but guess what, I have to combine two shades to get the one that works for my tone), NYX etc still have not realised that they are missing out on money they could get from us black consumers. I see them campaign gorgeous dark, cool toned/warm shades on instagram (launch promotion) but then only send the light skin shades to the UK (stupid right? rant over)

Happy place cosmetics Ellie (Vegan and cruelty free soap)

For a long time, my fall back foundation was the MAC Cosmetics Studio fix fluid in NC50. I know MAC is not drug store friendly but what is a girl to do? I rather spend 21.50 on foundation that works than spend 9.99 (twice to mix shades) for foundations that don’t work and are oily. The studio fix foundation for most parts is good but after a while, it becomes ashy and cake like on me and to be honest, it was getting quite expensive to repurchase. I wear foundation 5-6 times a week so I run through bottles of the liquid goodness quite quickly and it was beginning to eat through my coin
purse (catch my drift?).

My hunt for a MATTE drug store alternative became real, I searched UK stores, online etc because I wanted to be a able to purchase it from a place wear I could easily go in and either get color matched or match it myself. I am not going to lie to you guys, I struggled and wasted money on foundations that were either not the right shade or were not matte at all. One day i was having a conversation with MRJ regarding the issue and he advised me to let go of affordable foundations for now (maybe the UK still need time to get it right) and instead focus on trying other brands, so we went shopping and I came across the Clinque stand in debenhams. Clinique is one of those brands I overlook when it comes to makeup, I associate the brand with skin care, luxury items etc.

Whistle browsing the products, I came across the beyond perfecting foundation but the sample they had was for fair skin. I immediately muttered to MRJ, here “we go again, even higher end don’t carry black people foundation, I give up, lets go home”. I didn’t realise the lady at the counter over heard me, she immediately turned to me and said, have a seat, I will match you and you will love it. I was in between impressed and embarrassed so i did as I was told, she proceeded to match me and tell me about the foundation…..The way it blended into my skin had me gobsmacked, even MRJ said, you have to get it babe. I have been using this foundation for 3weeks (consistently) so I believe I can give you guys a true review of the product.

A foundation-and-concealer in one for a natural, beyond perfected look that lasts all day. Lightweight, moisturizing makeup covers thoroughly without clogging pores. Skin breathes comfortably, colour stays true, even through sweat and humidity.Due to the rich pigment level that enhances this flawless coverage makeup, shades may appear deeper when first applied. Leave the foundation to settle just for a few minutes,   this will allow the high pigment in the formula to adapt to your skin tone which is why you get such a flawless perfected finish.Suitable for ALL skin types

Needless to say that this foundation performs exactly as described. It is very light weight, and feels like skin. I wear it 5-6 times a week and I have not broken out, suffered from itchy skin or had one thing to complain about. For 25.00pounds you get 30ml worth of product, the packaging is sleek with a tough glass exterior and a wand applicator.

It stays matte (not overly drying matte) on my skin, it is easy to blend out and does not oxidise. it is oil free, great for my combination to oily beauties swell as other skin types. The coverage can be built up, I love the fact that it blends into your skin tone and some how adjust itself to match you. This is good if you have a slight tan due to the sun or get lighter in the winter months.

This foundation can also be used as a concealer, it has a point tip applicator wand, which can be used to either spot correct or for application under the eyes. the coverage is gorgeous and it doesn’t set in any fine lines.

My face after 8hours of wear

It comes in 20 shades, the colour stays true even in humidity. I can honestly say that this foundation lasts for at least 18hours, I know this because I went for a friends wedding a few weeks back and I had the foundation on from 6.00am till 11.42pm (precisely). I didn’t not reapply any powder, all I did during the day was to blot my nose. It did not separate or look blotchy, it was perfectly intact throughout the day.

When it comes to value for money, this foundation ticks all the boxes. Do your research, read the reviews and go and swatch it in store, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Top tips:

Apply the foundation directly onto your skin then buff it out with a flat top foundation/ kabuki brush, this will ensure an even and airbrushed coverage. Do not use a beauty blender to apply or buff out the product as it makes it look blotchy and it absorbs too much product.

Wait a few minutes after application for the foundation to set before going applying the rest of your makeup, this will help the foundation dry matte and last longer.
